Alert issued after ECP comes under cyber attack

ISLAMABAD:  The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has issued a security alert following a cyber attack on Friday.

Sources told HUM News that the electoral watchdog has warned employees to stay vigilant as the ransomware attack tried to steal the confidential data of the ECP through phishing methods.

“The ECP staff has been instructed not to open any emails that may potentially compromise sensitive data,” the sources said.

Earlier in June, Pakistan’s national security faced a breach due to negligence at the National Institutional Facilitation Technologies (NIFT).

The cyber attackers infiltrated the security system of the cheque clearing institution, gaining unauthorised access to data.
