ISLAMABAD: Arctic or Siberian winds are expected to enter the country from tomorrow (Friday), due to which the temperatures are expected to drop by two to three degrees during the daytime.
According to weather pundit Sarfaraz Khan, a cold wave is expected to affect Pakistan from tomorrow which will continue for the next 7-10 days.
Temperatures are expected to drop by 5-6°C minimum and 2-4°C maximum in northern areas. In southern Pakistan, a 2-3°C drop in maximum temperatures and a 3-5°C drop in minimum temperatures are expected, according to Sarfaraz Khan.
The polar vortex is likely to remain weak and displaced for the next 7-10 days leading to a prolonged cold wave due to the Arctic winds. The arrival of a weak WD starting from Saturday will further contribute to this, according to him.
Earthquake tremors felt in parts of Punjab
Most parts of the country are experiencing dry and cold weather. November was recorded as the warmest month due to a lack of rainfall.
The absence of rain has also led to increased smog levels. However, good news is on the horizon, as rain is expected in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and surrounding areas during December. These showers will likely intensify the cold.
Another spell of rain is anticipated in mid-December, with more showers expected towards the month’s end, according to the met office.
For now, most regions will remain dry and cold, while northern areas are likely to experience extreme cold.
In Islamabad and nearby areas, the weather is expected to stay cold and dry. Similarly, most districts in Balochistan will continue to face cold and dry conditions.
According to the met office, this time we will witness extreme winters in early December which usually occurs in late December and January.
La Nina is gripping its intensity which is the sign of extreme winters. This wave will enter Afghanistan by tonight and further spread to Pakistan in the next two to three days bringing the temperatures further down by four or five degrees centigrade
