KARACHI: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Friday announced that Murad Ali Shah will be their candidate for the chief minister of Sindh for the next five years.

Bilawal made the announcement while addressing the newly-elected members of the Sindh Assembly in Karachi. He also named Awais Qadir Shah as candidate for the speaker and Anthony Naveed as the candidate for the deputy speaker of the provincial assembly.

He said that the oath-taking ceremony of the new members will take place on Saturday.

Bilawal urged the PPP lawmakers to work hard and think creatively to resolve the issues facing the people of Sindh. He also said that they will have to compete with the governments of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the centre to show their performance.

He said that his party will build houses for the flood-affected people and give them ownership rights, especially to the women.

He said that the housing project was delayed during the election period, but now it will be resumed. He said that 50 percent of the educational institutions in Sindh were damaged by the floods, and his party will rebuild them.

He said that the PPP will provide education facilities to the youth, which is their right. He said that the PPP did not ask for any ministry or cabinet position in centre, and only demanded the rights of the flood victims.

He said that the PPP has achieved many successes in the health sector, and it will continue to improve it. He said that the PPP will have to upgrade its curriculum to prepare the youth for the modern world. He said that the PPP has started teacher training programs, and it is the responsibility of the members to monitor the quality of schools in their areas.

He said that the people of Pakistan are facing economic difficulties, as inflation, unemployment and poverty are increasing. He said that the PPP will try to play a positive role in the National Assembly and hold the federal government accountable.

Bilawal said on Friday that his party has achieved a historic victory in Sindh and that they only look towards the people. He emphasized that other parties thought the elections were easy, but everyone knows how challenging the election process is. He stressed the need to abandon traditional governing methods and politics. He also mentioned the importance of being accountable to the people.

The PPP chairman noted that inflation, unemployment, and poverty are increasing in the country. He stated their intention to play a positive role in the National Assembly and challenge the federal government. He pledged to make every effort to enhance the effectiveness of poverty alleviation programs. Additionally, he highlighted the water issue from Karachi to Kashmore as a top priority.

Bilawal indicated his plan to request the Sindh chief minister to focus on water supply projects, especially for Karachi. He expressed hope that they would work sincerely and honestly, maintaining strictness on corruption issues. He acknowledged the limited resources and urged finding solutions to problems while being vigilant.

He emphasized the voters’ trust in them and their responsibility to work for the people’s welfare. He believed that by working together, they could outperform their past achievements. He emphasized the familial bond within the party.

The PPP chief emphasized their potential to perform better than other provinces, given their majority in Sindh. He stressed that their competition lies with other provinces and the center, based on governance, work, and performance.

He clarified that as representatives of the PPP, they carry a significant historical burden. He stated their readiness to respond to lies and engage in constructive dialogue with the opposition. He corrected the misconception that the opposition’s role is merely to create noise, emphasizing its duty to critique policies and offer constructive alternatives.

Bilawal underscored the need for the opposition to support the people and act as a bridge between them and the government. He congratulated them on facing a challenging election and noted their resilience in thwarting various conspiracies.
