Cane Commissioner Punjab warns of sugar shortage

LAHORE: Amid concerns of sugar smuggling abroad, the Cane Commissioner of Punjab has issued a warning regarding the potential shortage of sugar stocks.
The commissioner has dispatched letters to the deputy commissioners of border areas, urging them to closely monitor the current sugar stocks and take strict legal measures against smugglers.
The regions of Rajanpur, DG Khan, Mianwali, and Rahim Yar Khan have received these instructions from the Cane Commissioner’s Lahore office. The commissioner’s apprehensions highlight the need to address the issue promptly and ensure the protection of local sugar supplies.
These heightened efforts come after a significant drug bust was reported Sunday night in in the coastal town of Pasni, Balochistan.
The Pakistan Coast Guards personnel located and seized approximately 1,488 kg of hashish. With an estimated value of $24.83 million, the drugs, hidden in the Kalanch area, were destined for international markets.
