Capital police introduce rigorous checks for voters


Islamabad police raise security threat to third level

ISLAMABAD: Islamabad police on Wednesday said a three-tier level security measure has been put in place for elections in the capital and voters will be allowed to enter polling stations after thorough checks.

In a post shared on social media platform X, the capital police highlighted a series of measures taken to ensure safety and security during the electoral.

The police said all individuals entering polling stations will undergo rigorous verification process. This also extends to individuals donning police uniform or any other similar organisation.

The capital police said that more than 2,000 law enforcement personnel will patrol the city in both official and non-official vehicles by prominently displaying the national flag.

Furthermore, the police said priority will be given to ambulances, fire department and other emergency vehicles on the roads.

The police urged citizens to reach the polling stations at the earlier given the thorough screening process. The citizens have been urged to cooperate with on-duty law enforcers.  

Citizens have also been urged to report any emergency to the “Pukar 15” hotline or the ICT 15 app.

These measures follow several violent incidents throughout the country on the eve of the election day.

A blast in Karachi killed two people including a child. Political workers were targeted in a hand grenade attack in South Waziristan.

Meanwhile, security in Balochistan is even more precarious with two separate blasts rocking the province and claiming the lives of at least 28 people.

Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) leader Hafiz Hamdullah also survived an attack by unidentified gunmen in the Chaman district of Balochistan.
