CJP Afridi reconstitutes Supreme Court committees; adds newly appointed judges

ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Yahya Khan Afridi has reconstituted the case management committee, along with several administrative committees.

CJP Afridi will head the new six-member case management committee, which will include Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan, Justice Shahid Bilal and Justice Shafi Siddiqui. Additional Registrar and Director IT have also been included in the committee.

For administrative committees, the chief justice has appointed Justice Musarrat Hilali as the supervising judge of the Anti-Terrorism Courts (ATCs) of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Justice Malik Shahzad has been appointed as the supervising judge of the ATCs of Punjab. Justice Hashim Kakar will be the supervising judge of ATCs of Balochistan, while Justice Salahuddin will be the supervising judge of the ATCs of Sindh.

Former chief justice of Islamabad High Court (IHC) Justice Aamer Farooq, who was recently elevated to the Supreme Court, has been appointed as the supervising judge of the ATCs of Islamabad.

CJP Yahya Afridi also appointed Justice Jamal Mandokhail to head the Supreme Court Building Committee, while Justice Shafi Siddiqui and Justice Aamer Farooq will be members of the same committee.

The IT committee will be headed by the chief justice himself, while Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar and Justice Miangul Hassan will be members of the IT Committee. The Research Center Committee has been entrusted to Justice Shahid Bilal Hassan, with Justice Shafi Siddiqui and Justice Aamer Farooq as its members.

Moreover, Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar will be the head of the Law Clerk Program Committee.

FIVE JUDGES NOMINATED TO HEAR CHAMBER APPEALS

Chief Justice Yahya Afridi, Justice Hassan Azhar Rizvi and Justice Hashim Kakar will hear chamber appeals, along with Justice Salahuddin and Justice Shakeel Ahmed.

The Supreme Court Archives and Museum Committee has been entrusted to Justice Hassan Azhar Rizvi. Justice Salahuddin and Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb will be members of the Archive Committee.

The committee on prompt justice and model courts has been entrusted to Justice Malik Shahzad, which will include Justice Hashim Kakar, Justice Salahuddin, and Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim as committee members.

Chief Justice Afridi has also appointed Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim as Security Judge. The Security Judge looks after security matters of Supreme Court Building, Branch Registry and Judges Colony.

Justice Miangul Hassan has also been given the responsibility of the coordinating judge for Pak-UK protocol in family and child extradition cases.

The committee that was formed to check quality of Supreme Court staff uniforms has been dissolved by the chief justice.
