Colleges in Peshawar closed amid protests, security concerns

PESHAWAR: The Higher Education Department in Peshawar took a precautionary measure today by ordering the early closure of colleges across the city, citing concerns over potential protests. This decision affected several educational institutions, including Frontier Girls College, where students were abruptly dismissed from ongoing exams and instructed to return home.

Speaking to the media, officials from the Department of Higher Education confirmed the closure, emphasising that it was enacted to ensure the safety of students amidst apprehensions of unrest and transportation challenges within the city.
In response to the closure, SP City Tayyab Jan addressed reporters in Peshawar, stating that Frontier College had indeed shuttered prematurely. However, he clarified that there were no reported internal threats or disturbances within the college premises. Despite this assurance, law enforcement officials, including SP City, were dispatched to the college as a precautionary measure.
Tayyab Jan, speaking on behalf of the police force, reiterated that there were no immediate security concerns within the college grounds. He affirmed that the decision to close the college came directly from the Education Department, indicating a proactive approach to potential unrest.
