ISLAMABAD: In a bid to pre-empt disruptions tied to the privatisation of state-run electricity companies, the federal government has enforced the ‘Compulsory Service Act’ across the power sector.
The legislation encompasses all organisations within the sector, including Distribution Companies (DISCOs), the National Transmission and Despatch Company (NTDC), and Generation Companies (GENCOs).

Sources indicate that the act imposes a six-month ban on protests and strikes by employees within these entities. During this time, union activities associated with DISCOs, NTDC, and GENCOs are also suspended.
The government’s move is aimed at ensuring uninterrupted operations in the electricity sector throughout the privatisation process. Any breach of the Compulsory Service Act will be met with stringent penalties.
