ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has disqualified Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader and Member of National Assembly (MNA) Jamshed Dasti.

The ECP announced the reserved verdict in the case regarding the eligibility of MNA Jamshed Dasti. The reference made by National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq against Jamshed Dasti has been approved by the ECP.

The ECP approved two petitions for disqualification of Jamshed Dasti, while also declaring the educational certificates of Jamshed Dasti as fake.

The three-member of the ECP announced the verdict, which said that Dasti “has made false statements and incorrect declaration, therefore he has also committed offence of corrupt practices defined under Section 167 and 173 of the Elections Act, 2017, punishable under Section 174 of the Election Act, 2017.”

The ECP bench has also issued directives for legal action against the disqualified MNA, under Section 190(2) of the Elections Act and other relevant provisions of law.

The verdict comes after the ECP had sought Karachi Education Board’s verification for Dasti’s educational documents. Jamshed Dasti was elected from NA-175, Muzaffargarh, in the last general elections.
