KARACHI: Eight suspects were detained during a search and combing operation in the Karachi neighbourhoods of Lyari and Pak Colony.
According to Sindh’s Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), the thorough investigation included the use of the Talash (‘search’) app, a mobile application devised to assist law enforcement in making efficient arrests.

The application was used in the combing operation to check the information, identification details, and history of around 88 suspected individuals.
The eight arrested were handed over to Kalakot police, the CTD spokesperson informed.
The Talash app was initially launched in Karachi last year, with an aim to spread its use across Sindh’s districts, to help combat street crimes and terrorist activity.
Its technology allows a quick on-the-spot assessment of a suspect’s criminal record. The software uses thumb impressions to identify culprits, both national and foreign, and even dead bodies.

With the rise in urban crimes in Karachi, police have recently amped up search operations.
Last week, Karachi police apprehended eight illegal Afghan residents from various locations including Machar Colony, Al-Asif Square, and nearby areas. The arrests were carried out after an extensive house-to-house search.
