Flight operations at Lahore Airport temporarily suspended due to fire

LAHORE:  Flight operations at Lahore Allama Iqbal International Airport have been temporarily suspended after a fire broke out in the lounge area of the airport early morning on Thursday.

The fire erupted in the sealing of the immigration counter, filling the passenger lounge with smoke.

Teams of the fire brigade and Rescue 1122 reached the airport and started immediate evacuation of the passengers from the lounge.

The fire was quickly brought under control and no damage to life was reported.

To ascertain the cause of the fire, a team has been formed. The immigration counter has been significantly affected by the fire and the process of immigration has stopped for the time being, according to airport authorities.

Due to the fire, at least six international flights including flights from Qatar and Sri Lanka have been delayed.

The departure of first Hajj flight have also been delayed due to the Lahore Airport fire. The flights whose boarding cards were issued have also been suspended.

The airport authority have not declared any emergency and no incoming flights have been diverted to other airports.

Civil Aviation Authority has formed a team to ascertain the cause of the fire however initial findings indicate it to be a short circuit.
