Former PCB chairman Shahryar Khan passes away in Lahore

LAHORE: Former Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Shahryar Mohammad Khan breathed his last in Lahore after battling illness for an extended period. He was 89 years old and is survived by his widow and four children.

Having played pivotal roles in the cricketing landscape of Pakistan, Shahryar M Khan’s demise marks the end of an era in cricket administration. His contributions to the sport, both on and off the field, have left an indelible mark on Pakistan’s cricketing legacy.

Apart from the sports arenas, he also left a commendable legacy as a diplomat after serving as Pakistan’s Secretary of Foreign Affairs from 1990 to 1994. He was a cousin of former Indian captain Nawab Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi.

Born in Lahore, Shahryar M Khan’s journey in cricket administration saw him ascend to the position of PCB Chairman not once, but twice, showcasing his leadership prowess in steering the country’s cricketing affairs and as well as his expertise in Pakistan-India cricket diplomacy.

As news of his passing reverberated through the cricketing fraternity, tributes poured in from all quarters, with current PCB Chairman and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi expressing profound regret over the loss.
