PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has reiterated promises to fulfill the promises made in grand Pakhtun National Jirga.

The CM made these reassurances in a follow-up meeting of the Jirga representatives with Gandapur, Dawn news reported. The chief minister said that cases filed against the Jirga members would be fulfilled.

Speaking to media, PNJ spokesperson Barkat Afridi said “The chief minister assured us that cases will be withdrawn and all the arrested members will be released soon.”

Afridi added that the Jirga did not demand any compensation for the lives of people who lost their lives when police personnel attacked the Jirga venue in October. However, they have demanded the damages to the property caused by the police force. For a resolution of this, CM Gandapur has promised another meeting with the Jirga, Afridi told media.

The chief minister has also granted PTM the permission to hold another jirga in Kurram to resolve the unrest and challenges to the security situation. “The provincial government will give us legal support [for Jirga],” Afridi said.

Earlier in November, the Pakhtun National Jirga announced formation of a legal committee to formulate recommendations for a new social contract to ensure constitutional rights for Pakhtuns.
