ISLAMABAD: The government’s plan to table the constitution package has been dealt with a major blow as after the government failed to muster enough support.
Talking to the media men in Islamabad, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Senator Irfan Siddiqui confirmed that the tabling of the constitutional package has been postponed indefinitely. “It may take eight to 10 days to present the constitutional package in the parliament,” he added.
PML-N Senator Irfan Siddiqui has claimed that JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman and the government have agreed to wait for a few more days before finalising their stance on the constitutional amendments that have shaken up the country’s political scene.
The veteran politician claimed that Maulana Fazlur Rehman has not sought any time to decide about his support for the amendments, adding that he had only said the suggestions must be scrutinised in detail.
Will the army chief also be getting an extension under the new constitutional package?
The Maulana stated that, in principle, he agreed with several aspects of the amendments in the constitution package but would like to scrutinise the details himself as he had to face the people, Siddiqui said.
In response to a query regarding the opposition’s claim of not receiving the draft of the amendments, he clarified that constitutional drafts are never made public, rather these are presented in the Parliament.
There was also no green signal from BNP-Mengal in supported of the constitutional amendments package.
BNP-M acting president Sajid Tareen contacted Sardar Akhtar Mengal who once again linked party’s vote with recovery of missing persons in Balochistan.
