India blocks Defence Minister Khawaja Asif’s  ‘X’ account

India blocks Khawaja Asif's 'X' account

ISLAMABAD:  In a bid to restrict dissenting voices, the Indian government on Tuesday blocked the official X (formerly Twitter) account of Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif.

The step follows a deadly attack in the Indian-occupied valley of Pahalgam that left 26 people dead, most of them reportedly tourists.

The account ban came just a day after India also blocked 16 major Pakistani YouTube channels, including leading news outlets like Geo News, ARY News, SAMAA TV, Dawn News, BOL News, and GNN, accusing them of sharing what Indian authorities called “provocative and communally sensitive content.”

These actions were reportedly based on recommendations from India’s Ministry of Home Affairs after the April 22 incident in the disputed Kashmir region.

Indian authorities have claimed the measures are part of a crackdown on narratives coming from across the border.

Pakistan has not officially responded to the ban of Khawaja Asif’s X account, but it comes at a time when both countries are once again locked in a blame game over Kashmir.
