More rain predicted for Islamabad, Rawalpindi

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast more stormy weather for Islamabad and Rawalpindi today, predicting thunderstorms, gusty winds, and rain, with hail in some areas.
While continuous overnight rains in the twin cities of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and surrounding areas has brought a welcome respite from the heat.
Rain has fallen intermittently in Rawalpindi, Islamabad, and Taxila since late last night, creating pleasant weather conditions.
However, the heavy downpour in the twin cities and surrounding areas has led to waterlogging in several streets and roads, and reports of fallen trees have emerged.
Over 120 millimeters of rain has been recorded in the twin cities so far. The downpour has caused over 40 feeders to trip, resulting in power outages in numerous areas.
Rawal Dam water levels force spillway opening
In Rawalpindi’s Shamsabad, 80 mm of rain was recorded, while Kacheri area saw 124 mm.
Several key roads, including Murree Road, Naz Cinema, Circular Road, and Tipu Road, were flooded. Water accumulation was also reported at Marrir Chowk, Shamsabad, and Sadiqabad, disrupting traffic flow and causing vehicle breakdowns.
The Committee Chowk underpass also witnessed waterlogging, adding to the difficulties faced by commuters.
In Islamabad, 42 mm of rain was recorded in Saidpur Village, 86 mm in Golra, and 114 mm in Bokra.
The Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) and other relevant agencies are on high alert to manage any emergencies.
Heavy rain and hail are expected in parts of upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, northeastern Punjab, the Potohar region, Islamabad, and Kashmir. The rest of the country is expected to experience hot and humid weather.
The National Disaster Management Authority’s (NDMA) National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC) has issued a warning of strong winds and thunderstorms in several areas of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Kashmir from September 26th to October 1st, 2024.
Intermittent rainfall is also predicted for some areas of Sindh from September 26th to 28th, 2024.
