Multan authorities crack down on brick kilns amid rising air pollution


The Environment Protection Department, Multan, ramped up efforts to tackle air pollution by cracking down on brick kilns and other violations

MULTAN: The Environment Protection Department, Multan, ramped up efforts to tackle air pollution by cracking down on brick kilns and other environmental violations.

According to the Assistant Director of Environment Protection Department Multan, in the last 24 hours, officials demolished fire parts from eight brick kilns.

 The department also targeted a rice mill located in the town of Makhdum Rashid to enforce compliance with environmental regulations.

A factory in the industrial area of Multan was fined Rs100,000 for failing to meet pollution control standards.

Similarly, a factory on Vehari Road was demolished due to its contribution to local pollution levels.

The assistant director confirmed that a separate factory  was also closed for repeated violation, with its owners arrested as part of enforcement actions.

Officials warned that factories not adhering to smog regulations will face demolition. The federal government in recent weeks has taken initiatives to reduce pollution and improve air quality across Pakistan.

Despite having a population of just 2.2 million, Multan is considered one of most polluted cities in the country with AQI reaching 1,900 levels.
