NAB decides to arrest Usman Buzdar

LAHORE: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has decided to arrest former Punjab chief minister Usman Buzdar for failing to appear before the anti-corruption body in the assets beyond means case worth more than Rs9 billion.

According to sources, Buzdar has failed to appear before NAB Lahore despite 14 summons. The NAB has requested the NAB chairman for the issuance of an arrest warrant under the new ordinance, which allows NAB to arrest a suspect even during the inquiry.

Usman Buzdar is also facing multiple cases of corruption and illegal land acquisition

Illegal land transfer case

The Punjab Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) has registered two FIRs against Buzdar and his brothers for allegedly transferring 900 kanals of government land illegally in Dera Ghazi Khan.

The land was given to Usman Buzdar and his brothers in 1982 and 1986, when they were minors, in connivance with revenue officials.

The cost of the land, as of 2021, has been estimated to be Rs4,98,83,641. An inquiry has been launched into the case by ACE.
