Nanbai association calls off today’s strike

LAHORE: After the successful negotiations between the district administration and tandoor owners, the nanbais (tandoor owners) have called off their strike for today.

The Nanbai Association had announced a strike on Wednesday over the matter of roti and naan prices across Punjab.

According to sources, 15,000 tandoor owners across the city have postponed today’s strike after successful negotiations with the district administration.

The tandoor owners put the demand of flour subsidy before the negotiation team and said that a 20 kg bag of flour should be given at Rs 1700.

The negotiation team said that they will place the demand of the tandoor owners before the Punjab government.

Tandoor owners have claimed that the district administration has agreed after which roti will be sold at Rs 16 and naan at Rs 25, however, the district administration says that roti will be sold at Rs 16 and naan at Rs 20.

Deputy Commissioner Lahore Rafia Haider has warned that strict action will be taken against those who sell bread and bread at excessive prices, while Waheed Abbasi, Senior Vice President of Nanbai association, has said that time has been given to the district administration to meet their demands.

Last month, Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz announced to fix the price of bread at Rs.16 across the province which received a grieved response from Nanbais. They refused to sell and demanded to fix the new price of bread.
