New cabinet committee formed to investigate Faizabad sit-in case

ISLAMABAD: The federal government has announced the formation of a new cabinet committee to address the ongoing issues related to the Faizabad sit-in case.
The committee has been established following the Supreme Court and the Prime Minister’s expression of no confidence in the report of the Faizabad Dharna Commission.
Govt terms Faizabad inquiry report ‘dissatisfactory’
This committee will submit report on whether a new commission should be formed to further investigate the case.
The official notice of the formation of the cabinet committee has already been received by the investigation team. If the committee suggests the formation of the commission, then it will also be tasked with determining the terms of reference (TORs) of the commission.
As per the issued notification, Minister for Law Azam Nazir Tarar will chair the committee, which will include the Minister for Interior, Minister for Establishment and Economic Affairs, the Attorney General, and the Secretary, Law and Justice Division. Their collective expertise and oversight are expected to ensure a thorough and impartial review of the case.

The Faizabad sit-in, which took place in 2017, involved a protest that led to significant disruptions and raised numerous legal and political questions.
