PDMA warns of rise in daytime temperatures

LAHORE: Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a alert in Punjab , predicting a significant surge in day temperatures by up to 5 degrees Celsius until May 10.

Plains areas, in particular, are expected to bear the brunt of the heatwave, warns a PDMA spokesperson.

The department forecasts hot and dry weather prevailing across most parts of the country, particularly being severe in the central and southern regions during the day. However, relief may be on the horizon as rainfall is anticipated in north Balochistan, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir during the evening hours. 

The spokesperson also forecasts the onset of dusty winds and potential rainfall across most districts of Punjab from May 10 to 12. Furthermore, thunderstorms are anticipated to lash southern Punjab on May 10 and 11. 

PDMA has forecasted heavy rainfall in the districts of South Punjab on May 10 and 11.

The PDMA has alerted the administration to be prepared for the expected heatwave and storms following the instructions of the Punjab Chief Minister.

Meanwhile, in Lahore, the Meteorological Department reports a gradual increase in temperatures, with the mercury expected to soar to 42 degrees Celsius on Thursday.

With the current temperature already recorded at 32 degrees Celsius, the city braces for a relentless onslaught of scorching heat in the next 48 hours.

In Islamabad, the weather is likely to remain hot and dry in Islamabad and adjoining areas. The evening hours in the capital are expected to be partly cloudy with rain.

Similarly, southern districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are expected to experience rainfall, providing a temporary reprieve from the sweltering conditions during the day. 

In Karachi, although warm and clear weather prevails, the temperature will be felt higher than normal due to the high humidity levels in the air.
