Peshawar establishes CTD’s first SWAT unit

PESHAWAR: In a significant move to bolster security and counter-terrorism efforts, the first-ever Operations Unit of the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) has been established in Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
This elite unit, will be called the ‘Special Weapons and Tactics Team’, or “SWAT,” and it was formally introduced by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General (IG) of Police Akhtar Hayat Khan.
Comprising a team of 30 highly trained personnel, the SWAT unit is divided into three groups, with ten members in each.

One of the standout features of the SWAT team is its arsenal, which includes state-of-the-art weapons and advanced communication tools, ensuring swift and efficient responses to critical situations, as highlighted by IG Akhtar Khan.
Additionally, the SWAT unit boasts the expertise of three skilled snipers, who have undergone rigorous training to enhance their precision and marksmanship, a crucial asset in counter-terrorism operations, stated IG Police.
Moreover, the newly formed force has been equipped with cutting-edge thermal weapons, further enhancing its capabilities to respond effectively to security threats and emergencies.
