ISLAMABAD: Fuel prices are expected to increase by Rs 5 per litre for the next fortnight starting from January 16, according to an estimate.
The increase comes amid a surge in global crude oil prices, which have reached a three-month high. Reports suggest an expected rise of Rs 3 to 5 per litre for petroleum products, driven by international market trends.
This anticipated hike in fuel prices from January 16 follows the government’s recent price adjustments earlier this month. On January 1, petrol prices were increased by Rs 0.56, bringing the rate to Rs 252.66 per litre. High-speed diesel saw a Rs 2.96 hike, setting the price at Rs 258.34 per litre.
Gold Rush: Has Pakistan hit the jackpot?
The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has submitted revised petroleum product prices to the government.
The proposed rates are pending approval from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the Finance Division. If approved, the new prices will come into effect on January 16, 2025.
The potential increase in fuel prices will directly affect the cost of transportation and goods, further burdening consumers and businesses already grappling with inflationary pressures
