PIA plane transported from Karachi to Hyderabad via road

PIA plane transported by road

ISLAMABAD: First time in country’s history, a grounded Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) Boeing 737 plane is being shifted from Karachi to Civil Aviation Institute in Hyderabad via road.

Hyderabad is over 150 kilometres from Karachi, usually a 2.5-hour drive at normal speeds, but this trip will take much longer.

A special truck and a trolley are being used to transport the Boeing 737’s fuselage as its wings and tail will be moved separately.

Malik Humayun Khalid, director of a private transport company said that the grounded plane is being shifted on 74-wheeler trawler. The length of the aircraft is 110 feet while its weight is 40 tons.

Deputy Director Logistics Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) Munir Alam said that the plane will be parked at Civil Aviation Institute of Hyderabad and will be used for providing training to under-training students.

A team of experts from Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) also accompanied the transport company during the process of shifting.

The Motorway Police said the motorway would not be blocked during the transfer. The long vehicle carrying the fuselage will drive on one side of the road, escorted by CAA staff and security. “The plane is being moved as per protocol,” they added.
