He also acknowledged the growing institutional strength of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), calling it a “robust and responsive organisation.” Referring to recent monsoon rains, he said provincial governments were advised to work in close coordination, though he expressed sorrow over the loss of lives during the rains. “The tragic incident in Swat was heart-wrenching. It is imperative that we learn from such events and take effective future steps to prevent similar tragedies,” he noted.
On the economic front, the premier highlighted the remarkable performance of the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), which reached a historic high. “The PSX’s unprecedented rise reflects improving investor confidence and a positive economic trajectory,” he said. “This achievement signifies our collective efforts towards economic stability and growth.”
He reiterated his government’s commitment to performance-based governance, announcing that each ministry’s performance would be reviewed every two months. “Departments that deliver good results will be acknowledged, and where flaws are found, they will be addressed with necessary disciplinary action,” he warned.
Praising Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal, the PM said, “His performance has been surprisingly commendable. He truly deserves appreciation.”
During a meeting with Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) officials, PM Sharif was briefed on their preparedness in the wake of recent rains. He appreciated their proactive stance.
The prime minister concluded by urging business leaders to continue investing in the stock market, terming their role pivotal in strengthening the economy. “We are all making concerted efforts to boost GDP growth and overall national development,” he said.
