PMD issues severe weather alert for Monday

WEB DESK: A weather alert has been issued for several regions across Pakistan, forecasting more rain, strong winds, and thundershowers on Monday. The affected areas include Kashmir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Islamabad, Northeast Balochistan, Southeast and Upper Sindh, and Gilgit-Baltistan. In particular, heavy rain is expected in Kashmir, Upper Punjab, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Coastal areas of Sindh may experience light rain, with cloudy conditions persisting throughout the day.

Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) predicts that in Islamabad and surrounding areas, intermittent rain with strong winds and thunderstorms is anticipated, with the possibility of heavy rain at certain locations.

Punjab is also bracing for severe weather, especially in regions such as Murree, Guliyat, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, and Jhelum. Other areas like Mandi Bahauddin, Sialkot, Narowal, Gujarat, Gujranwala, and Lahore are likely to experience strong winds, gusts, and thundershowers, with heavy rain expected at some places. The southern parts of the province, including Bahawalpur, Multan, Khanewal, and Dera Ghazi Khan, are also on alert for similar conditions.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, districts such as Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, and Mansehra are likely to experience rain accompanied by strong winds and thunder. Heavy rain is expected at a few locations within these districts, with other areas such as Peshawar, Kohat, and Waziristan also under watch.

Sindh’s forecast indicates partly cloudy and hazy conditions in most districts, while coastal regions may see light rain. There is a possibility of rain with strong winds and thundershowers in specific areas.

Balochistan is expected to remain hot and humid, although districts like Zhob, Musa Khel, Barkhan, and Khuzdar might see rain with strong winds and thundershowers. A chance of rain is also predicted for other parts of the province.

In Kashmir, more rain with gusty winds and thundershowers is forecast, with heavy rain likely at several locations. Gilgit-Baltistan is expected to be partly cloudy, with a chance of thunder and rain at a few places.
