ISLAMABAD: Senior leader of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and former Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah has commented on the situation surrounding the Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) stating that the PTI Chief is already imprisoned and that individuals arrested for judicial remand could potentially be placed under pre-trial detention.
Speaking during the news programme Hum Dekhenge with Mansoor Ali Khan on Hum News, Rana Sanaullah highlighted a security concern for the PTI Chief.
“If adequate security arrangements have been made for the PTI Chairman, it would be deemed appropriate, and even court proceedings could occur within the confines of the jail,” he remarked.
He further advocated for the PTI Chairman’s access to legal counsel and witnesses, stressing that the Chairman’s assertion about security threats during court proceedings was accurate. He also underscored that complete security measures had been provided to the PTI Chairman.

Meanwhile, Rana Sanaullah indicated that copies of cypher were available within the Foreign Ministry and the Prime Minister’s Office. He pointed out that the PTI Chairman claimed the copy had been lost. He emphasised that making classified documents public or losing them is a serious offense and that the legal framework regarding the disclosure of classified documents remains unchanged.
Addressing the incidents on May 9, Rana Sanaullah expressed that from November 25 to May 9, there were continual breaches of the law. He highlighted that each day witnessed disturbances caused by PTI. He challenged the legitimacy of FIRs filed without infringing the law.
“As many times as the law is violated, that’s how many times FIRs will be lodged. When there are multiple allegations, one might evade charges while the other is arrested,” he stated.
In response to inquiries about the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) stance on timely elections, Rana Sanaullah noted that the PPP has expressed political dissatisfaction. He noted the absence of discussions during the Council of Common Interests (CCI) meeting regarding the previous population census. “The PPP was aware that new delimitations would follow the population census,” he concluded.
