PTI disowns Sher Afzal Marwat’s allegations againt Shoaib Shaheen advocate

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has distanced itself from Sher Afzal Marwat’s allegations against Shoaib Shaheen advocate, both of whom are legal counsel of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman.

In a statement on Twitter, the PTI said that “Sher Afzal Marwat’s recent statement is generally based on his personal opinion and observations, which have no connection to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.”

The statement said that “Shoaib Shaheen advocate is a key member of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman’s approved legal team. He is part of the core committee, involved in the party’s legal and political matters, and authorized to represent the PTI for its positions in this period of accountability and trials. Shoaib Shaheen advocate, along with all members of the legal team, has been dedicatedly contributing his services to PTI with great diligence, and he is highly regarded for his commitment and perseverance.”

The PTI’s official statement comes on the heels of serious allegations hurled in a tweet by Sher Afzal Marwat who called Shoaib Shaheen advocate a traitor within the rank and file of the PTI.

In his long tweet, Sher Afzal Marwat has raised concerns about the PTI legal team and the involvement of certain individuals.

In the tweet, Marwat said, “after consulting with senior members of the core committee, I had decided to delete that tweet. I want to clarify in clear terms that Shoab Shaheen advocate is the sole traitor within PTI’s legal team.”

“He emerged clandestinely in the last week of April 2023 and was spotted in Bani Gala. I was surprised to see him at the legal committee meeting in Bani Gala. Prior to this, he had never been part of ILF or PTI and was openly engaged in activities that indicated his alignment with certain individuals within Bani Gala. Shoab Shaheen pursues legal cases related to service tribunals and does not possess expertise in criminal cases,” Marwat said.

“Despite not being a lawyer for Khan, he claimed to represent Khan, which was fraude. Our party’s influential covert forces supported him. When all of PTI’s leadership was blacklisted in the electronic media, he was the only person who was neither stopped nor blacklisted. Due to his employment and services, he was unrelated to the legal team; however, due to the influence of two individuals in the PTI, he regularly attended almost every legal team meeting,” he said.

“Soon, I realised that our legal wisdom was already known to the lawyers of the state. Sometimes, he leaked our information to government departments and, on one occasion, he even endangered my life. He forced me to reveal his identity publicly, but due to the intervention of two responsible officials of the PTI, I abandoned this idea,” Mrwat said.

“Before 2023, he always took pride in his relationships with agencies, and this is common knowledge in Islamabad. Shoab Shaheen was aware that I was behind him, and he conspired with others to target me. I challenge that he has not represented Khan in a single criminal case, and yet shamelessly claims to be Khan’s lawyer. He has caused us significant damage in our legal battle,” he said.

“I know this tweet will disturb his facilitators and associates and may make me a target through my friends. However, I consider it my sacred duty to enlighten all PTI workers about this vile face. Share this tweet as much as possible so that it reaches all PTI workers,” he said.

“As long as there are traitors within our ranks, they will continue to thwart Khan’s release from prison. If we do not take them seriously, I am afraid that no immediate release for Khan is possible. No hasty requests for Khan’s release can be entertained. One revelation from among the traitors should not surprise anyone, as in the past four months, we have witnessed the treachery of highly trusted individuals.”
