Punjab police crackdown

LAHORE: Following directives from Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, Punjab Police initiated a targeted campaign against the hazardous activity of kite flying to ensure public safety.

The crackdown, aimed at curbing the use of metal strings and reckless kite flying, has seen significant enforcement measures across the province.

According to a spokesperson for the Punjab Police, in a recent development, over 15,000 motorcycle riders were provided with safety wire-guards as part of the ongoing efforts to prevent accidents caused by kite strings. Additionally, more than 10,000 motorcycles have already been fitted with protective wire-guards thus far.

The operations wing of the police department, in collaboration with traffic police, distributed a substantial number of safety wire-guards among motorcycle riders, with over 76,000 distributed by the operations wing and 31,000 by the traffic police, respectively.

At the same time, 30 individuals were apprehended under the kite flying act within the last 24 hours, with 30 corresponding cases registered across the province, Punjab police reported. Seizures included 4,368 kites and 1,073 spinning wheels recovered from the possession of the accused, highlighting the scale of the enforcement efforts.

Islamabad to get electric buses next month

Over a broader timeframe, spanning 36 days, a total of 3,659 suspects have been detained, and 3,526 cases filed under the anti-kite flying act, encompassing areas such as Lahore. The recovery of 223,881 kites and 15,799 spinning wheels was also reported.
