KARACHI: In a pioneering move for Pakistan, the Sindh government has taken a groundbreaking step by introducing a licencing system for teachers in the province.

This novel initiative targets teachers who have successfully completed a 4-year BEd degree and requires them to pass a rigorous test to qualify for the coveted licenses.

The licensing process will be administered through the Sindh Testing Services, marking a significant departure from conventional practices.

The call for applications has been officially announced, and aspiring teachers have until January 11 to submit their applications for consideration. Successful candidates will be granted licenses, opening doors to elementary teaching positions at grade-16 levels within the province.

The Sindh government’s commitment to elevating the standards of education is evident in this strategic move.

Caretaker Education Minister Raina Hussain emphasized that the introduction of the licensing scheme aims to enhance the capacity and proficiency of Sindh teachers across the province.

This transformative measure not only sets a precedent for educational reforms in Sindh but also signifies a proactive approach to ensuring quality education by raising the bar for teacher qualifications and competencies.

Some 400 new vacancies were created for Elementary School Teachers (eligible to teach grades 1-8) across Sindh at BPS-16.

Previously, Junior Elementary School Teachers (JESTs) were being inducted in BPS-14 and were required to have completed graduation in any field. These new vacancies are only for graduates of the BEd degree programme, who have also cleared the licensing exam.
