Minister unveils software to track medicine stocks in hospitals

Drug prices in Pakistan

LAHORE: In a significant move to improve public access to essential medicines, the government has introduced a new software system designed to track and manage hospital inventories.

This initiative follows reports last week of a shortage of tetanus shots across the city, which sparked widespread concern.

The ‘Store Management System’ was officially inaugurated at Mayo Hospital by the provincial Health Minister, Khawaja Salman Rafique. During the launch, Minister Rafique highlighted the software’s capabilities, highlighting its role in enhancing transparency and efficiency in the healthcare sector.

“This software will be implemented across various hospitals,” said Minister Rafique. “It will provide real-time data on current stock levels, incoming supplies, and pending purchase orders, ensuring that we can effectively manage our medicine inventories.”

The introduction of this system marks a step by the government to address the recurring issue of medicine shortages, aiming to prevent future crises and improve patient care.
