Sub-inspector arrested for allegedly accepting bribe in Lahore

LAHORE: A sub-inspector was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Establishment Punjab (ACE) for allegedly accepting a bribe on Wednesday.

A spokesperson for the Anti-Corruption Establishment Punjab stated that the sub-inspector had solicited a bribe from a citizen under the pretext of facilitating the arrest of a suspect in a case.

According to the spokesperson, the accused policeman had demanded a bribe from the citizen in exchange for ensuring the arrest of the individual implicated in the case.

The sub-inspector had reportedly accepted a sum of Rs25,000 from the citizen to conduct a “thorough investigation” into the case.

The ACE spokesperson stated that upon receiving a complaint from the citizen, the authorities launched an investigation and arrested the police officer.

As per the spokesperson, authorities have recovered the bribe amount from the accused at the time of his arrest. A formal case was also registered against the sub-inspector.

The Anti-Corruption Establishment Punjab was founded around 1956 to primarily investigate cases of corruption and conduct preliminary inquiries to assess whether these offenses warranted further investigation.

The ACE operates within the administrative jurisdiction of the provincial Chief Secretary to ensure it complies with government protocols and directives in addressing corruption-related matters within the province.

The department is organised into multiple wings to properly manage its operations. The wings include the “Legal Wing”, “Technical Wing”, “Research Development and Training Wing”, “Monitoring and Vigilance Wing”, and the “Administration Wing”.

The department operates in different regional areas led by a regional director. This ensures that it can be available in every jurisdiction and its reach extends even to more remote areas.
