KARACHI: The Karachi administration has implemented a comprehensive ban on swimming, bathing, diving, and wading in the sea for a period of one month, citing concerns over high tide and turbulent waves.
Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi issued a notification, effective immediately from June 28 to July 27, declaring these activities prohibited along Karachi’s beaches and coastal areas.
This decision follows a recent drowning incident reported on June 20, 2024, at Hawks Bay Beach in the Arabian Sea. The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation had recommended the ban, highlighting the hazardous conditions caused by high tides and turbulent waves, which pose significant risks to beachgoers.
Authorities have instructed the police to enforce the ban under Section 144 of the criminal procedure code, with violations subject to legal action under Section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code.
This measure aims to ensure public safety amidst dangerous sea conditions, urging citizens to adhere to the temporary restrictions for their own protection.
