Three foreigners killed in explosion near Karachi airport

KARACHI: At least three foreign nationals died while 17 others sustained injuries in a huge explosion near Jinnah International Airport, Karachi. The explosion also destroyed three cars and four motorcycles.
Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport was rocked by a massive explosion at around 11:00pm on Sunday. Initial reports suggested that an oil tanker had exploded.
Residents of the surrounding areas rushed out of their homes. Rangers and police quickly cordoned off the area, while fire brigade teams worked to extinguish the fire.
Sindh’s Interior Minister, Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjhar, stated that the incident was an act of terrorism. The target was a car carrying a foreigner, who was injured in the attack.

“The blast occurred at a place where a bomb squad waits for its visitors and takes them to their destination,” he said.
There were reports that two foreign delegates were about to arrive in the city. One of the security convoys was waiting at the Gharial Chowk for the vehicle. The second convoy was inside the airport.
Police officials confirmed that the identities of the three deceased foreigners have been verified. The victims were identified as Li Jun, Wo Chun Zhan, and Li Zhao.
Following the explosion, long lines of vehicles were seen on the roads.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Sindh, Murad Ali Shah, took notice of the incident and demanded a report from the police chief. He also instructed authorities to provide the best medical care to the injured.
