We won’t let these unconstitutional people take oath: CM Gandapur

PESHAWAR: Speaking to media after the announcement of senate elections postponed, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur denounced what he perceives as “repeated breaches of the constitution”.

Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) provincial Chairman Shamshad Khan announced that the senate elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have been postponed on the request of the opposition members.

In response to this, Gandapur’s aired his anger and grievances with the media and said that he was informed about this development during a parliamentary party meeting.

“The constitution is being broken again and again in this country,” CM Gandapur said, while pointing out instances where his party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), felt that reserved seats were purportedly allocated in violation of constitutional provisions.

“Reserved seats were allocated unconstitutionally. How can our seats be given to someone else?” he said, adding, “We will not let these unconstitutional people take oath here”.

CM Gandapur also alluded at impending confrontation, stating, “I am saying clearly, we will fight”. He spoke on the confiscation of PTI’s election symbol before elections eventually culminating into reserved seats being denied to the party.

He also said that upholding the constitution is not only a duty of the rulers, rather every citizen is responsible for it.
