Will not ‘voluntarily’ appear before inquiry committee on wheat scandal: Kakar

ISLAMABAD: Former Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar on Sunday said that he would not voluntarily appear before the inquiry committee on the wheat scandal, but if formally summoned, he would comply.

Speaking on Hum News’ program “Pakistan Tonight,” he addressed allegations regarding wheat imports during his tenure, denying any corruption involvement.

He attributed the import bill responsibility to the PTI government and clarified that no new SRO was issued during his time.

He said that the JIT was formed during the last days of the PDM government the decision was left to us by the PDM government. We only decided that the Pakistani government would not misuse the state’s coffers.

We decided not to make purchases, and let the private sector do it. We did not give special permission to the private sector for wheat imports. Under the SRO, the private sector could import wheat itself.
