ISLAMABAD: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has said that they will vote for the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on their own terms and are steadfast on their position for forming the government.
He said that anyone who wants to change their stance has to make progress.
Talking to the media outside the Supreme Court, Bilawal said that he was following his campaign according to his plan. He said that if he had won the election and become the majority party, he could have claimed that it was his mandate. But he said that the people’s wisdom and awareness showed that they did not give a majority to any one party to govern on their own.
He said that the people sent a message that the country cannot be run by one party, they have to sit together and make decisions, the people are saying that whoever wants to govern has to join hands with others.
Bilawal said that the reality was that the people have made such a decision that now all the stakeholders and political parties have to sit together and agree so that they can not only save their democracy but also the parliamentary system, economy and federation.
The PPP chairman said that when political parties form alliances, they have to accept some points of each other. He said that the only way out of this whole mess was dialogue and compromise.
He said that the delay in the process of forming the government was raising questions on the political stability of Pakistan, so the sooner the process of forming the government was completed, the better it would be.
He further said that the PPP has decided that they will talk to those who have come to them. He said that if he has to vote for PML-N, he will do it on his own terms. How can he vote for PML-N on their terms? he asked
The PPP chairman said that the consultative committees for talks for forming the government were sluggish, and this non-seriousness was harming Pakistan and democracy. He said that the sooner the matter was resolved, the better it would be for the political stability and the upcoming government.
Bilawal said that he or the PPP were not in a hurry, they were firm on their stance. He said that if anyone else has to change their stance, then progress can be made, and if no one was ready to change their stance, then a very dangerous deadlock was looming. He said that the outcome of this would not be beneficial for democracy, economy and political stability.
Responding to a question, Bilawal said that “what proof do you have that I am in cahoots with the establishment? Before accusing me, give me evidence.”
He said that if Maulana or anyone else talks, ask them. He said that even if he had met them, did he talk about democracy and constitution or did he make deals?
