The Sunni Ittehad Council promptly submitted the list of new members, along with their affidavits, to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

Wednesday was the last day for independent candidates to join any political party.

Earlier on Monday, the SIC asked ECP to assign seats reserved for women and minorities to the party. The request came after the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) backed independent candidates decided to the religious party.

According to an announcement by PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar, the party-backed independents filed applications with the election body regarding their joining the SIC.
