ANP calls for fair elections

ANP

LOWER DIR: Awami National Party (ANP) spokesman Zahid Khan has called upon the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and the caretaker government to ensure a fair and level playing field for all political parties as they conduct their election campaigns.

According to Dawn.com, during a press briefing in Odigram on Monday, Zahid Khan stressed the need for a thorough investigation into the individuals responsible for the May 9 riots and their subsequent prosecution through the judicial system.

He also expressed ANP’s opposition to any potential ban on Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) in the upcoming elections.

Khan pointed out that the caretaker government should refrain from any actions that may be seen as targeting a specific political party, emphasising the importance of impartiality in the election process.

Furthermore, he refuted claims of internal divisions within the ANP and urged the government to adhere to international laws when dealing with the repatriation of Afghan refugees.

Meanwhile, ANP district general secretary Malik Mohammad Zeb has called upon the vice-chancellor of Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan to prioritise the employment of local youth at the university’s Timergara campus.

He expressed concerns over reports that around 350 employees from AWKU Mardan were being reassigned to the Timergara campus. ANP, he stated, would oppose the relocation of university employees from the main campus to the Timergara branch.

In another development, residents of the Ghulamabad locality near the district jail have voiced their dissatisfaction with the local police’s efforts to combat the increasing incidents of theft in the area.

They reported that thieves had recently stolen cash amounting to Rs800,000 from a shop near the Timergara jail, as well as 11 batteries from a mobile phone tower over the past two weeks.

Additionally, a car parked on Khungi Road was also stolen, prompting concerns about the rising rate of robberies in the area.
