ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has adjourned the hearing of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) intra-party election case till October 2. A three-member bench, led by ECP Member Sindh Nisar Durrani, presided over the proceedings. PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar, appeared before the Commission.

During the hearing, ECP Member Balochistan inquired if PTI’s intra-party elections were held in Chamkani [Peshawar], to which Barrister Gohar responded that elections were conducted in Islamabad.

Barrister Gohar also requested a 10-day extension to submit the necessary documentation.

In response to a query from the bench regarding PTI’s future if their intra-party elections are not recognised, the Director General of Political Finance cautioned that if the results of the intra-party elections are not accepted, PTI would be left without an organisational structure. The bench then directed the DG Political Finance to assist further on this point, with Barrister Gohar expressing his support for the process.

Barrister Gohar emphasised that the ECP had done what it could regarding the non-holding of intra-party elections and expressed hope that no further delays would occur. PTI has been given additional time to submit the required documents.

Speaking to the media outside the ECP, Barrister Gohar remarked that PTI had conducted the most transparent intra-party elections and urged the ECP to retrieve documents currently with the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).

He also criticised the ECP for focusing its attention on PTI while allegedly neglecting other political parties. Gohar hoped that the next hearing on October 2 would proceed smoothly, without any further hurdles from the ECP.
