CJP not to except extension in his service tenure, says Rana Sanaullah

Rana Sanaullah

ISLAMABAD: Advisor to PM for Inter-Provincial Coordination Rana Sanaullah on Monday claimed Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Qazi Faez Isa has refused to accept an extension in his service tenure.

Exclusively talking to ARY News, Rana Sanaullah said: “CJP Qazi Faez Isa has made it clear that he will not accept any extension”.

He said that CJP has discussed this with the Law Minister and Attorney General and has noted that if an extension in the age limit is given to everyone then he would accept it.

“We don’t have the numbers needed for the Chief Justice’s extension or the constitutional amendment. If we had the numbers, it should have been done because a constitutional amendment is the prerogative of Parliament”, Sanaullah said.

On the political front, Rana Sanaullah said, Maulana Fazlur Rehman is not in cooperation with us rather we are.

CJP Isa on September 17, 2023, took oath as the 29th chief justice of Pakistan (CJP) after his predecessor Umar Ata Bandial hung up his robes a day earlier.

Justice Isa’s tenure as the country’s chief justice, however, is quite brief, as he is set to retire from the position on October 25, 2024.
