ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has submitted a review petition challenging the Supreme Court’s decision regarding reserved seats. The petition urges the Supreme Court to reconsider its ruling from July 12.
The ECP argues in the petition that it has fulfilled its responsibilities according to the constitution and law. It asserts that the decision involving the 39 PTI members was implemented correctly and that no legal or judicial rulings were misinterpreted.

ECP also argues that it did not misinterpret any legal or judicial rulings and faithfully executed the court’s decision, and that the Supreme Court should not interfere with Article 218 of the Constitution.
The ECP maintains that it has the constitutional right to seek a review of judicial decisions.
ECP also plans to scrutinise the nomination papers, party affiliation documents, and affidavits of the independent members. To facilitate this scrutiny, a four-member committee headed by the Special Secretary has been formed.
Last month, the Supreme Court of Pakistan delivered a judgement on the application filed by the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) concerning reserved seats in the national and provincial assemblies.
