Judicial remand of Imran, Bushra extended in new Toshakhana case

RAWALPINDI: The judicial remand of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, has been extended until September 16 in connection with a new Toshakhana case.
The hearing was held within the confines of Adiala Jail where Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi were brought to from Adiala Jail for the proceedings. Accountability Court Judge Nasir Javed Rana presided over the hearing.

The court also scheduled a hearing for the post-arrest bail applications of the accused on September 6.
During the proceedings, Barrister Salman Safdar, representing the Imran and Bushra, argued that the new Toshakhana reference was essentially identical to the previous one, stating, “Two references cannot be made on the same charge.”
In response, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) prosecutor contended that the similarity of the new reference to the previous one could only be determined by examining the relevant documents.
The NAB prosecutor also submitted a request to obtain the judicial records of the earlier Toshakhana reference. However, after considering the arguments, the court rejected NAB’s request for the judicial records.

The hearing saw the presence of prominent lawyers, including Barristers Salman Safdar, Intizar Panjotha, and Khalid Yusuf Chaudhary, on behalf of the accused. Representing NAB were Prosecutor General Sardar Muzaffar Abbasi and Umair Majeed.
