KP govt moves to file FIR against Islamabad police chief

Islamabad Police Chief

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government on Monday submitted an application at the Sharqi Police Station Peshawar seeking to file a First Information Report (FIR) against Islamabad Police Inspector General (IG) Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi on charges of raiding the KP House in Islamabad on October 5 to arrest Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur and his aides who were staying there as part of the Pakistan Tehkreek-e-Insaf protest.

Earlier in October, a Special Committee of the KP Assembly, tasked with investigating the October 5 raid on KP House Islamabad by Rangers and Islamabad Police, had completed its preliminary inquiry and submitted the report to the Provincial Assembly Secretariat.

The committee’s preliminary report had estimated the damage caused by the raid at around Rs9 million.

The report had also alleged that the police seized Rs6 million in cash from the offices of KP House during the raid.

Speaking in the provincial assembly, the chairman of the special committee, Munir Hussain Laghmani, confirmed the submission of the preliminary report stating that the secretary of administration and the advocate general have been assigned the task of filing FIRs in Peshawar and Islamabad against those involved in the attack on KP House.

The KP government has sought the formal registration of the FIR so that legal proceedings could be initiated against the Islamabad police chief.

The administration department’s state officer has filed the application on behalf of the KP government.

In the application, it was mentioned that IG Nasir Rizvi along with other 600 officials not only raided the KP House but also injured the PTI workers who were protesting at D-Chowk on October 5.

Earlier, Gandapur had also announced to file an FIR against the Islamabad police chief and 600 other unidentified police officials for allegedly raiding the KP House in Islamabad, under relevant sections of the Anti-Terrorism Act.

The PTI says that the Islamabad police and Rangers raided the KP House solely to arrest Gandapur as part of a crackdown on the party protesters at Islamabad’s D-Chowk.
