Nomination papers of Murad Saeed, Azam Swati rejected for senate elections

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Wednesday rejected the nomination papers of the prominent leaders and former ministers of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) including Azam Swati and Murad Saeed for the upcoming Senate elections.

The scrutiny process of the nomination papers filed for the Senate elections continued in the ECP as per its schedule.

The nomination papers of eight candidates for the technocrat seat in the Senate were declared valid while the papers of PTI leader Azam Swati for the same seat were rejected.

The ECP also approved the nomination papers of 16 candidates including Niaz Ahmed and a son of Nawaz League’s Amir Muqam for general seats from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province.

The nomination papers of PTI leader Murad Saeed, former Chief Minister Mehmood Khan and Khurram Zeeshan were rejected.

The ECP also accepted the nomination papers of six female candidates for the reserved seats for women.

Polling for the Senate’s vacant seats from the federal capital will take place at Parliament House on April 2, 2024.

The returning officer’s deadline to file appeals against the acceptance or rejection of nomination papers is March 21, 2024.

The Tribunal is scheduled to dispose of appeals by March 25, 2024.

Revised lists of candidates will be published on March 26, 2024. The deadline for withdrawal of candidature is March 27, 2024.
