Petition filed in SC to block proposed constitutional amendments

ISLAMABAD: A petition has been submitted to the Supreme Court seeking to declare the proposed constitutional amendments null and void.
The petitioners, including prominent legal figures Abid Zuberi, Shafqat Mehmood, Shahab Sarki, and Ishtiaq Ahmed, argue that the amendments violate the principles of separation of powers and undermine the independence of the judiciary.
PTI announces lawyers’ movement against constitutional amendments
The petition requests that the federal government be restrained from moving forward with the amendments and that the bill’s presentation process be halted.
Additionally, if Parliament passes the amendments, the petition calls for preventing the President from signing them into law. The petition further asks that the judiciary’s independence, powers, and judicial affairs be declared inviolable.
