LAHORE: The Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) and the Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) are currently at loggerheads over the power-sharing arrangement in Punjab, according to sources on Sunday.

Despite four meetings of the provincial coordination committees from both parties, no substantial progress has been achieved. The PPP accuses PML-N of lacking seriousness regarding the power-sharing agreement in Punjab, insiders revealed.

Additionally, PPP is concerned that its members in the Punjab Assembly have been sidelined in the budget and have yet to receive allocated funds, sources further disclosed.

Previously, it was reported that PML-N has been urging PPP to join the coalition government at the Centre. The PML-N has extended invitations directly and through mutual acquaintances, encouraging the PPP to join the federal and Punjab governments as an ally.

“The PPP has not yet responded to the government’s offer, nor has the party held internal discussions on the matter,” sources mentioned.

The PPP leadership is reportedly under pressure to join the government, with parliamentarians from Sindh advocating for this move. However, a senior leader from Sindh has strongly opposed the idea and has conveyed this stance to the party leadership.

The PPP’s Punjab leadership, on the other hand, favours joining the provincial government over the Centre. “The PPP would strengthen its position in the province by joining the Punjab government,” sources indicated. – INP
