KARACHI: Karachi law enforcement authorities have officially confirmed the detention of Raja Azhar, a former Member of the Provincial Assembly (MPA) and prominent figure within the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party.
The arrest, validated by the East Investigation Police, follows allegations of Raja Azhar’s involvement in acts of vandalism and arson directed at a Rangers checkpoint, as well as public and private property adjacent to Shahrae Faisal.

Raja Azhar is slated to appear before the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) to address the charges brought against him. The specifics of his alleged engagement in the destruction and disturbance are expected to be examined in this judicial setting.
It is noteworthy that Raja Azhar’s apprehension occurred subsequent to nationwide unrest ensuing from the arrest of former Prime Minister and current leader of PTI on May 9.
The detention of the party chief led to widespread demonstrations spanning both remote regions and major urban centers. Expressing their discontent over their leader’s arrest, PTI party members participated in protests, thereby necessitating military intervention in several regions to maintain public order.
During these protests, acts of aggression were directed at military establishments, including an assault on the residence of the Corps Commander in Lahore. The occurrences underscore the heightened tensions triggered by the detention of PTI’s prominent leader and the subsequent turmoil that gripped the country.
