48 Police officers, personnel including six martyrs awarded the QPM and PPM medals

KARACHI, January 15: Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar, attended a prestigious event as the chief guest at the Saleem Wahidi Auditorium, D.L. Branch Clifton, where police officers were honored for their outstanding services.

In his address, he paid tribute to the brave personnel of the Sindh Police who have sacrificed their precious lives in the line of duty. He expressed pride in the martyrs of Sindh Police and their families, acknowledging the efforts of the police in ensuring the safety and security of the public despite challenging circumstances. He stated that despite inadequate facilities and difficult conditions, the police officers continue to stand firm in the discharge of their duties.

He also appreciated the positive changes seen in the operations and measures of Karachi Police, thanks to the efforts of IG Sindh and his team. Karachi, being a large city with a diverse population from both within Pakistan and abroad, requires collective efforts for the development and prosperity of the country and the province. He emphasized the importance of making decisions based on merit and the priorities of the people.

He expressed that it was a matter of great pride to be part of today’s event, reaffirming their commitment to protect the country, the province, and its citizens. He stressed that they would never shy away from any sacrifice for the peace and security of the nation and would always remember the sacrifices made by their elders.

He also mentioned that the sacrifices made by Quaid-e-Awam, Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and the Daughter of the East, Shaheed Benazir Bhutto, for the country’s survival and security would never be forgotten. He praised IG Sindh, Ghulam Nabi Memon, and the Sindh Police for their frontline role in difficult times, expressing confidence that they would continue their efforts.

Additionally, he noted that President Asif Ali Zardari had already instructed the Sindh Chief Minister to release a Martyr Fund for the injured police personnel and the families of martyrs. He further proposed that a specific name be assigned to the fund for the injured police officers.

It is worth noting that during the event, 48 officers and personnel, including six martyrs, were awarded the QPM and PPM medals. The medals for the martyrs were received by their family members.

In his speech, IGP Sindh Ghulam Nabi Memon suggested that an annual event to honor police personnel should be held. He highlighted that the awards presented today recognize the distinguished achievements of officers and personnel from 2014 to 2022. He acknowledged the significant sacrifices made by the police in ensuring peace and security in Sindh and Karachi. The decline in crime rates, including target killings, terrorism, extortion, and other serious crimes, is largely attributed to the police’s sacrifices and hard work. He pointed out that today, the city witnesses smooth traffic and vibrant lights at night, which is clear evidence of the successful maintenance of law and order.

He further proposed that the Sindh government should announce annual awards/medals for police heroes, similar to the federal government’s practice.

The Sindh Home Minister assured that this would be considered, adding that President Asif Ali Zardari is pleased with the performance of Sindh Police and desires that the bravery of police officers and personnel be acknowledged not only at the government level but also by allocating substantial rewards for them.

The Conferment Ceremony of QPM/PPM was also attended by Additional Chief Secretary for Home Iqbal Memon, spokesperson for the Sindh government, Sumeta Syed, Wahid Halepoto, Ghanwar Khan Asran, along with Addl. IGP Karachi, Addl. IGP CTD, DIGs, SSPs, and other senior officers.
