ISLAMABAD: The National Commission on the Status of Women (NCSW) hosted “The Art of Parenting” stakeholders meet at its headquarters in Islamabad. Chaired by the NCSW Chairperson Nilofar Bakhtiar, the session marked a significant initiative under the Federal government’s Umeed-e-Sehr and Agosh project, said a press release issued on Tuesday.

The conference commenced with a discussion on a policy document aimed at addressing and managing abnormal attitudes among adolescents, while fostering empathy and harmony. This document was collaboratively drafted by the National Institute of Psychology, Quaid-i Azam University (QAU) and Aga Khan University (AKU) with partners Aga Khan Development Network and Dukhtaran-e-Pakistan.

During the stakeholders’ meeting the experts, stakeholders, and policymakers suggested deliberating on fostering healthier family dynamics and societal harmony through effective parenting practices. Chairperson Nilofar Bakhtiar emphasised the critical role of parents in shaping the future of the nation, stating, “Parenting is not just a responsibility but a profound opportunity to instill values, empathy, and resilience in the next generation.”

During the session, participants engaged in robust discussions and offered insightful recommendations, including, the development of a comprehensive policy framework, a training manual for parents, and the promotion of empathy and harmony.

Chairperson Nilofar Bakhtiar lauded the collaborative efforts of all stakeholders. She also provided guiding directions for developing a national document aimed at promoting a well-learned and balanced approach to parenting. She said that NCSW will take the lead in taking this document to the provinces for their feedback and consideration. NCSW will also form a steering committee that would deal with day-to-day affairs and developments of this national policy.

She said, “Effective parenting is the cornerstone of a prosperous and harmonious society. By investing in the well-being and development of our children, we lay the foundation for a brighter future for Pakistan.”
